I could not believe a TV clip this morning that in Zimbabwe a bought sandwich coats over FOUR MILLION ZIMBABWE DOLLARS.

In response to:Zimbabwe, and why i'm so angry

Its sad isn't it? I know its not all down to him, but the lies that Blair peddled to get us into Iraq have left the world more than reluctant to get engaged with intervening in Africa. People from Darfur to Harare are suffering, but no-one seems to have the appetite to get involved. Mandela is oddly mooted. There is a columnist in the Independent who suspects its a basic racism on his part: human rights abuses by whites are to be opposed, but when perpetrated by blacks then there is to be a code of silence and he'll shut up. Who knows the truth of it.

I was talking to some Zimbabweans on Saturday holding a vigil outside Zimbabwe House on the Strand. They have a petition going round to ask Mandela to state his potion and there will be a small demo by them on Friday 27th (Mandela is being fated on his birthday as a living Saint) to remind people of the situation.

On Friday 27th June they will be holding the Zimbabwe Vigil’s Mock Presidential Run-off from 10.00 am – 4.00 pm outside the Zimbabwe Embassy + a protest outside the South African High Commission from 1.00pm – 2.00 pm.

For the Mandela 90th Birthday Concert, also on Friday 27th June, at 4.00 pm in Hyde Park, Vigil supporters are to attend the event with banners reading “Speak out Mandela” and “What about Zimbabwe?” I don't know what else they can do from London, and feel very sorry for them.
